What we collect
Parent account information
- Email address
- Password (hashed with PBKDF2 — never stored in plain text)
- Optional first name
Kid profile
- First name only — provided by the parent
- No last name, birthday, email, photo, or contact information
Usage data
- Which words were attempted in each spelling quiz
- What the kid typed for each word
- Whether each attempt was right or wrong
- Time taken per word and per session
- Session timestamps
Device data
- Browser and operating system (user-agent string)
- Approximate country (IP-based, not precise location)
Anonymous play
If a kid uses the app without a signed-in parent, session and attempt data is recorded with no link to any account.
What we don't collect
- No advertising identifiers, tracking pixels, or behavioral profiles
- No microphone, camera, or contact-list access
- No last names, birthdays, or contact details for kids
- No payment information — the app is free
How we use it
We use the data we collect to:
- Show the parent the kid's progress on words, quizzes, and streaks
- Improve the curriculum by identifying which words kids struggle with most
- Maintain and operate the service
We never sell, rent, share for advertising, or otherwise monetize the data we collect.
Children's privacy
The app is designed for children. The account, however, is the parent's. Accounts can only be created by an adult providing a valid email and password. Parents are in control of their kid's profile at all times and may delete the account and all related data at any time through the self-service "Delete account and data" button inside the app.
Storage
All data is stored in Cloudflare's United States data centers.
Cookies and local storage
We use the browser's localStorage (not cookies) to remember:
- Your sign-in session
- Preferences such as keyboard layout, speaking speed, and selected song
We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics scripts.
Your rights — including deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time:
- Open the app and sign in
- Tap 📈 Progress
- Tap Delete account and data at the bottom of the panel
- Type the confirmation word in the box and submit
Your parent account, all kid profiles, every quiz session, and every word attempt are removed from our database immediately. You may also email us at info@synthbridge.net to request the same.
Updates to this policy
If we change this policy, the new "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the change. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
